About this event

Catapult is a challenge of strategy, negotiation, innovative thinking, and out manoeuvring your opponent. The objective is to build a formidable weapon and win the final battle!

The event has 3 parts…

Part One: the Alliance

  • Each team receives a box containing weapon parts, ammunition and other resources
  • The parts that make up the catapults are divided up across all the teams
  • Each team has different opportunities / resources in their box
  • Teams must form alliances with other teams
  • Teams trade weapon parts and ammunition in strategic exchanges between teams
  • The exchanges require teams to negotiate, barter and make and break agreements

Part Two: the Build

  • Teams join together in their alliances to form an army
  • They share their resources and build a weapon
  • They can continue to meet with other armies to trade resources and make alliances
  • At the end of the build weapons must pass the weapon safety inspection!

Part Three: the Battle

  • This can take place inside or outside (weather dependant)
  • Each team is issued with targets called ‘Knights’
  • Teams place their Knights strategically around the battlefield
  • Using their catapult, teams take turns to fire ammunition
  • In order to win the battle, a team must knock over the other team’s Knights

The activity focuses participants on negotiation, strategic-thinking and teamwork. It concludes with a dramatic and epic battle where the last team standing wins!

It can be done indoors or outdoors.
